St Patrick’s Cathedral depends on the generosity of our parishioners, friends, and benefactors. We need to remain sensitive to the challenges people are facing – a fundraising partnership means sharing the journey. Fundraising presents challenges but we aim to reinvigorate Parish life with a vision for future growth, a viable future and working towards building a sustainable future for our Cathedral. We remain committed to preserving the Cathedral – a masterpiece of art and architecture, an icon in Armagh’s skyline and the spiritual home of the See of Armagh.
In the recent past we have seen a generous response to the ‘Vision for the Future’ campaign for the extensive refurbishment in 2003. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the building, repairs and maintenance are ongoing and we are again in the situation of the Cathedral requiring urgent attention.
Scheduled works for attention are:
Â
Based on previous accounts, annual expenditure for repairs and maintenance of the Cathedral are in excess of £150,000. Unfortunately, the Parish does not have the reserves to meet these recurring demands. As in all parishes, we depend on weekly envelopes and Gift Aid for running expenses and the downward trend is obvious. Income is down while expenditure is up.
Our aim is to work towards a viable and sustainable future for the Cathedral. We remain committed to its preservation. We are sensitive to the challenges facing parishes in the present economic crisis and are aware that this may not be the ideal time for fundraising.
There are many ways of financially supporting the campaign by becoming a ‘Friend of the Cathedral.’ Options include a one-off donation or, preferably, a monthly donation. Standing order mandates are available from the Parish Office (Telephone 028 3752 2813) or can be downloaded by clicking here DOWNLOAD STANDING ORDER & GIFT AID FORM.Â
All donations are eligible for Gift Aid if the doner is a UK taxpayer, enabling the Archdiocese to reclaim an additional 25% of the amount donated.
Join us in preserving this treasured landmark for generations to come and ensure the Cathedral remains a centrepiece of our Diocese for the 21st Century and beyond. Every donation we receive supports our ministries and maintains our magnificent place of worship. We strive to keep the Cathedral sustainable by ensuring that all remedial works are conducted in a timely manner and our aim is to implement a sustainable plan for future maintenance of the building using resources more effectively.
