Respect for our dead and care for their places of burial is an important part of our Catholic tradition and parishioners are to be complimented on the way in which they attend their family plots each year. We encourage all parishioners to continue to maintain the different graveyards in our parish and dispose of dead flowers etc on family plots/graves in a proper way, by taking them home or putting them in the skips. It’s very encouraging to see people visiting the graveyards and praying for their deceased relatives and friends throughout the year. For some, the graveyard can be a lonely place, for others, it can be a sacred place for quiet reflection.
As we visit the different cemeteries in our parish and remember all our dead we pray:
God, our shelter and our strength, you listen in love to the cry of your people: hear the prayers we offer for our departed brothers and sisters. Cleanse them of their sins and grant them the fullness of redemption. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
If you are preparing to erect a headstone or replace an existing one, we encourage you to read through our Burial Rules for St Patrick’s Cemetery
